Need assistance or ready to help a physician in need?

Financial Assistance

Washington Physicians Health Program (WPHP) is an independent, physician-led, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that provides critical support to Washington’s medical community.

WPHP’s Financial Assistance

Contributions WPHP receives helps assist healthcare professionals and provides scholarships for those who could not otherwise afford treatment.  WPHP may be able to provide financial assistance to program participants with financial need. Financial aid awarded through WPHP includes grants towards evaluation and treatment, fee deferrals and Reunion scholarships.

Applying for Financial Aid

Participants can apply for need-based grants of up to $3,000 for evaluation and treatment. To be considered, participants will need to complete WPHP’s Financial Assistance Application. Applications will be reviewed for consideration of financial assistance to those with financial need based on information provided on the Financial Assistance Application form. We consider all assets and resources including lines of credit when evaluating need. Applications must be received by WPHP prior to scheduled evaluation, as eligibility will need to be determined before evaluation. For treatment, applications can be received prior to or during treatment.

Other Types of Financial Assistance

Zero-interest Fee Deferral Agreements are offered to participants who demonstrate temporary financial hardship and would benefit from having their program fees partially or fully deferred until they are able to repay them. A repayment schedule for deferred fees is incorporated into the agreement and is structured to be affordable, while also finishing repayment by program completion. Participants can request a Fee Deferral Agreement by filling out the Financial Assistance Application.

WPHP’s Annual Reunion Scholarships

WPHP’s Annual Reunion event is a special opportunity that features a program of inspiring speakers and workshops. Attendees unite and support each other on the journey of recovery in a unique Pacific Northwest setting. Thanks to our generous donors, who are former participants and other supporters, WPHP has scholarship funds available to fully underwrite first-time attendees and to assist with returning attendees experiencing financial hardship.  The Annual Reunion scholarship application is incorporated into the registration process for the Annual Reunion and does not require completing the WPHP Financial Assistance Application. Scholarship awards may not cover the entire cost of Reunion participation.

University of Washington School of Medicine and Graduate Medical Education Partnership

In partnership with the University of Washington (UW) School of Medicine and GME, WPHP covers the cost of pre-health support agreement assessments for students and trainees. Such assessments may include initial intake appointment and evaluation, laboratory studies, neuropsychiatric evaluation, and comprehensive diagnostic evaluations, as indicated. UW SOM and GME students are automatically eligible for this support and no application is required.
