WPHP’s Annual Reunion event is a special opportunity that features an exciting program and inspiring speakers! Attendees unite and connect with one another in a unique Pacific Northwest setting. The educational presentations, personal stories, and fellowship provide support, guidance, and community. CE credits are also available.

Annual Reunion Speakers
Presentation: Trauma-Informed Care and Trauma-Informed Leadership
Sadie Elisseou, MD
Dr. Elisseou is a physician at Mass General Brigham, faculty at Harvard Medical School, and leading subject matter expert in trauma-informed care. Her curriculum on trauma-informed physical examination is taught at medical schools across the United States. Dr. Elisseou teaches clinical healthcare professionals how to provide top-quality care to patients who have lived through trauma. She also consults for companies and organizations that wish to cultivate wellness and help team members optimally engage through stressful times.
Presentation: Epidemiology of Addiction & Neurodevelopmental Disorders in Families with Addiction
Vita McCabe, MD, MHSA
Dr. McCabe is a University of Chicago Medical School alumna and former cardiothoracic surgeon. With a master’s degree in health management and policy from the University of Michigan School of Public Health, her expertise spans physician systems change, impairment and resilience, and is deeply influenced by her own personal journey with physical disability that affected her career as a surgeon and family history of addiction. Dr. McCabe has made notable and significant contributions, including serving on the Illinois State Medical Board’s Impairment Council and chairing Michigan’s Health Provider Assistance Committee, which is the oversight body for the Health Professionals Recovery Program that represents 25 health professional boards. She embraced her passion for mental health, completing her Psychiatry residency and addiction Psychiatry fellowship at the University of Michigan. Dr. McCabe joined Michigan Medicine faculty in Addiction Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine in 2024. Her professional duties include caring for health care providers with substance use disorder, inpatient complex addiction consults, leadership of University of Michigan Addiction Clinical Services, and coordinating the service line for addiction in an interdisciplinary way. Dr. McCabe’s research centers on trajectories of substance use disorders and the intersection with ADHD. She currently serves as the President-Elect of the Michigan Society of Addiction Medicine.
Sean Esteban McCabe, PhD
Dr. McCabe is the Carol J. Boyd Collegiate Professor and Director for the Center for the Study of Drugs, Alcohol, Smoking and Health, at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He has been the principal investigator of 15 FDA- and NIH-funded grants and secured over 60 million dollars in federal funding for substance use research. Dr. McCabe has authored over 300 manuscripts in peer reviewed journals including JAMA and received several prestigious awards including the 2024 Betty Ford Award. He is currently a faculty mentor on five NIH-funded training grants and enjoys mentoring the next generation of health professionals and substance use scholars. Dr. McCabe has clinical experience treating substance use disorders in adolescents and adults across a wide range of settings. His research has influenced clinical guidelines and federal policy. Dr. McCabe disseminates research findings widely through invited talks locally, nationally and internationally, children’s media (e.g., Sesame Street), federal agencies (e.g., FDA Drug Safety Communications), and podcasts (e.g., Lancet Psychiatry). He has appeared live on CNN. Dr. McCabe’s most ambitious project is HopeHQ™ which unites a multidisciplinary team of leaders from over 30 community, academic, and health care partners to conduct cutting-edge research and offer technical assistance to help children bereaved by their parents’ drug overdose death thrive through evidence-based services.

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by CineMed and the Washington Physicians Health Program. CineMed is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
Physicians
CineMed designates this live activity for 5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Dentists and Oral Health Professionals
Cine-Med is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider (January 1 – December 31, 2026). ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education. ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry.
Cine-Med designates this activity for 5 continuing education credits.
Other Healthcare Professionals
All other healthcare professionals will receive a Certificate of Participation. For information on the applicability and acceptance of Certificates of Participation for activities designated for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™, consult your professional licensing board.
Scholarships
Are you a first-time attendee or in need of a scholarship? Thanks to our generous donors, WPHP has scholarship funds available to underwrite first-time attendees and assist returning attendees experiencing financial hardship.
For scholarship support, please apply when registering for WPHP’s Annual Reunion to determine eligibility. The deadline for scholarship requests is July 17, 2026. Applicants will be notified on August 3, 2026.
Scholarship awards may not cover the entire cost of Reunion participation and only covers registration fees and lodging accommodations at the venue during the Reunion event.
Donations
WPHP has three established donation funds designed to assist program participants:
- Thomas Hornbein, M.D. Fund
- The Lynn R. Hankes, M.D. Reunion Scholarship Fund
- The Daniel O’Neill Family Fund
As is our tradition, last year generous donors stepped forward and underwrote scholarships for 34 participants/key support’s who otherwise would not have been able to attend the reunion. WPHP expresses heartfelt gratitude for this strong show of generosity.
To refrain from any acts that could be perceived as a conflict of interest, WPHP cannot accept donations from program participants and their key supports. We do accept contributions from those engaged in Graduate Support Agreements and other alumni of the program. Thank you for your support and understanding.
