WPHP Overview & Impairment Presentation

This presentation provides an overview of the Washington Physicians Health Program (WPHP) and the services it offers to support the healthcare community across Washington state by Chris Bundy, MD, MPH, FAPA, FASAM, Executive Medical Director of WPHP. During this one-hour session, Dr. Bundy also examines impairment—how it is defined, how it presents, and how to effectively address it.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the presentation, viewers will be able to:

  • Define impairment as it applies to health professionals including the ethical and legal obligations for responding to concerns of impairment.
  • Identify signs of impairment in health professionals and barriers to effectively addressing concerns of impairment.
  • Describe the process by which WPHP assists health professionals with concerns of impairment and the basis for effective advocacy that balances public trust and the need to protect patient safety with the rehabilitative needs of health professionals.
