WPHP recently attended the 2024 Interim Meeting of the American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates from November 7-12. Held at Lake Buena Vista, Fla., this event brought together healthcare professionals, policymakers, and advocates from across the nation to discuss and address critical issues impacting today’s medical workforce.
A highlight of the event was an educational panel titled Legislative and Regulatory Advocacy to Support Physician Wellness, featuring WPHP’s Executive Medical Director and FSPHP’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Chris Bundy, as a featured speaker. This session offered a look into advocacy strategies designed to create a healthier environment for physicians by influencing legislative and regulatory practices.
The panel’s key topics included:
- Revamping Medical Board Practices: Recommendations for addressing mental health and reducing stigma within the licensing process.
- Transforming Licensing Questions: Revising licensing requirements to better support physician mental health.
- Improving Accreditation Standards: Enhancing standards to promote supportive, wellness-centered workplaces.
- Workforce Recruitment Strategies: Fostering a supportive environment that attracts and retains new physicians.
For attendees, this session also offered CME credit. For more information on educational sessions and CME resources, please visit the AMA’s Interim Meeting education page here.
The meeting provided a valuable opportunity for WPHP to connect with others in the healthcare community, exchange ideas, and share insights on the challenges healthcare professionals face. As we return from this important event, we are eager to implement the insights we gathered to further strengthen our support for the physician community. Our experiences at the AMA House of Delegates meeting will help us enhance our strategies and align with the latest best practices in supporting physician well-being.
We would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who made this year’s meeting possible, and we look forward to continuing our work to create a healthcare landscape that prioritizes the well-being of medical professionals.
